Welcome to my website....

I am David Carter and I am currently the Mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council.
I have been working for the betterment of the South Burnett communities for the last 15 years and was Mayor of the former Wondai Shire Council. With the amalgamation of Murgon, Kingaroy, Nanango and Wondai Shires in March 2008, I was elected inaugural Mayor of the new South Burnett Regional Council.  My history in local government speaks for its self and with my proven leadership I will lead the region into the future. With the other six elected councilors, I am working to unite the four former shire councils while also maintaining strong, individual communities.  This is not an easy job given the financial restraints and community expectations.  South Burnett Regional Council is presently one of seven Queensland councils on state government financial watch because of the financial positions of the pre-amalgamated councils.  Added to this has been the huge costs involved in the amalgamation process – from equalisation of wages to networking four different computer systems and rebadging of Council facilities. In our shire, seven elected representatives are now doing the job previously undertaken by 37 councillors.  On the state level, there are 89 State parliamentarians while, after amalgamation, there are only 73 Mayors!  It is a massive job but one that I am passionate about and committed to.I am interested in your comments and suggestions.
